Success:
As a bird of prey, the kestrel is a ground hunter and primarily hunts field voles, moles and rats (which accounts for around 90% of its diet). The ability to perceive ultraviolet light to locate droppings and urine from small rodents makes the kestrel the perfect helper in fighting mice and is therefore not only very popular with farmers and foresters. The nesting box, which has an approach aid, is also often used outside of the breeding and nesting season as an outlook for mouse hunting. Kestrels do not build their own nests and do not bring any nesting material in, so that the nest box is accepted more quickly, it is advisable to line it with straw or wood shavings. In treeless areas, the nest box for mouse hunting can be placed on high posts. The minimum height is around 2.5 to 3 m.
The durability of the nest box is about 10-15 years
